![]() ![]() Here are suggestions and some sample routines to help get you started. ![]() Routines should be established when children are young and applied consistently as they grow - but it’s never too late to start. The payoff: greater productivity for your child, as well as better health and family relationships.Ī review of 50 years of psychological research, recently published in Journal of Family Psychology, shows that even infants and preschoolers are healthier and exhibit better-regulated behavior when there are predictable routines in the family.Įffective routines take commitment and consistency, with all family adults presenting a united front. Yet in just such times, structure becomes most important. Everyone is juggling schedules: work, school, recreation, music lessons, basketball practice, and so on. In these hectic times, it may seem impossible to provide a structured lifestyle. The message: We are a family who eats together we are a family who reads together we are a family who schedules regular times for schoolwork and other ongoing responsibilities. And family identity is solidified by routines in which everyone plays a role (Anna sets the table, Brian clears the dishes). What follows is a relaxed home, which yields stronger family relationships. Both parents and children experience decreased stress when there’s less drama about what time you’ll eat dinner and where you’ll settle down to do homework. In addition, your whole family will benefit psychologically from a structured regime. By building one, you send a message that says, “This is how we do things.” Routines make daily activities manageable, allowing your child to focus on one thing at a time. A predictable schedule offers structure that helps kids feel safe and secure. It may not always be obvious, but children want and need routines. In terms of behavior, they help improve efficiency and daily functioning. Routines affect life positively on two levels. The Benefits of Putting Your Child on a Schedule ![]() To make structure truly effective, routines need to be seen and implemented not just as simple behavioral strategies, but as a way of life. Usually, trying to implement a daily schedule doesn’t work because parents give up too soon. Every day becomes a battle, and we’re all worn out. Yet many throw in the towel after a few weeks (or even a few days) because the routines are not working. Many well-intentioned parents enthusiastically start out to establish the structure their children need. Yet there is hope - even happiness - in sight. But when you’re raising a child with real attention difficulties in the real world, setting and maintaining such routines can seem downright hopeless. Do something fun to unwind before a regular bedtime. Make sure homework happens at the same time and in the same setting daily. You’ve heard it before: Set up a morning routine for kids with ADHD to get out the door on time. The keys to getting the ADHD organization help you need: belief in the power of family routines and a long-term commitment to them. All parents of children with ADHD have heard the routine about routines: Kids need structure, and children with attention deficit need even more.

Thankfully, my story elements mini-unit is extremely low-prep and simple. Part of going slow is being proactive before embarking on a new unit. With this approach, setting up your foundation is crucial. Each day, you will introduce a new story element. Now, it is time to get ready for a five-day journey with your single text. And this mini-unit will definitely benefit from sticking to a slow but meaningful approach. One of my favorite teaching mottos is to go slow to build deeper knowledge. Keep reading to see some of my favorites at the end of this post! Step 2: Establish Your Story Elements Text Those features help keep students engaged over and over again. Strong character leads with whom students can identify.Stories that involve interactive elements, such as call and response.Relatable stories with messages that hit home.Humor that becomes class “inside” jokes.Illustrations that include a lot of hidden details. Here are some qualities I look for in a story elements mentor text: And not to worry! Simple texts do not have to be boring. However, you want students to be able to identify story elements with independence. Often, more complex stories blur the lines between each story element. The second rule of thumb is: Keep it simple. Moral of the story: Be sure to identify each of the story elements in your first mentor text. Some books have no real conflicts, while others have no real resolution. But, the story elements don’t follow a typical structure. Novak is incredibly silly and self-referential. For example, The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Truthfully, that’s what makes them so fun. I’m often surprised at how often my favorite picture books play with the story elements. Does the resolution to the conflict happen at a predictable moment in the story?.Does this story include an explicit conflict that encompasses all or most of the plot?.Is the plot linear, and does it include a major event with smaller sub-events?.Is the story set in a specific place or time that is identifiable through context and pictures?.Is the main character front and center, and are there secondary characters?.When reading through your favorite stories, make sure you can answer yes to the following questions: The first rule of thumb is: Use a clear mentor text that demonstrates all five story elements. The text you choose can either make the journey to learning story elements a breeze, or it can lead to a lot of confusion down the road. It may sound simple, but this is a crucial step. ![]() You might be thinking: Don’t the students get bored? Don’t you run out of things to say? The answer: Nope! And today, I’ll walk you through my steps to teaching story elements with a single text. It makes planning easier and understanding stronger. These days, I start my story elements unit with one single text and stick with it. I would create a mini-routine for this unit. I could simplify my approach to teaching story elements in a way that would be more rewarding and meaningful for my students. But, every approach I took felt disorganized and scattered. I knew their importance in the grand scheme of reading comprehension. Characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution. All in a quite sinister tone that would fit a Tim Burton movie like a glove.ĭespite of having a bit Zimmerian action there’s A LOT of Herrmannesque beauty in Kataganagatri, a rather substantial amount of score with a nine minute concert piece and perhaps his most awesome song, “Peacock blue eyes”. In Black Butler Iwasaki lets his inner maestro loose, delivering hours of opera, marches, waltz, requiem and concerto. It’s as soothing as it is jolly with moments straight out of a ballet or romantic symphony. With Binchou-tan he again demonstrated the same kind of ingenuity with a chamber ensemble, delivering a unique and incredible heartwarming score. Some additional parts are done by a studio ensemble. Lets just say he wrote some true gems as Iwasaki “the artist”.Īgito was the only time in his career working with a worldclass symphony orchestra and I would say he succeeded with flying colors in adapting his orchestral style for a symphonic ensemble. In some cases the orchestral score is even build around this one piece, like Jojo with L’anima or Qualidea Code with Canary. What characterizes both is at least one standout cue in every album, mostly an operatic piece or orchestral song among much electronics, rap or dubstep. It’s born out of his adoration for Rap, Dubstep and Opera. I divided his “Artist” side by two Phases: The first one I call Rapera, his most recent one Dubera. It all comes down to the simple fact that Iwasaki lives and breathes with a classical mind (grounded on classical education) and Zimmer does not or at least never demonstrates it. What I find ironic is that while Iwasaki pays homage to the style, he also puts the original inspiration to shame. But Iwasaki is also very much a fan of Zimmer (mostly his early stuff). Iwasaki appears more confident and sincere in his talent for orchestral writing in the classical phase, often paying homage to the classical repertoire and the Golden Age of Hollywood. “The Composer” can be divided into two phases: One more classically oriented and one on the side of Zimmer and RC. But recently he lets his old self emerge from time-to-time. During the last decade he did mostly wear the mask of the artist while his earlier years were pretty much that of a traditional media composer. His genius comes in the form of a mask with two faces: “The Composer” and “The Artist”. But if there's an area where he is pretty much the king of media composers now, it's in the romantic impressionism departement. You get everything from 1920s galore and Italian opera to Zimmerian action and electronic dubstep. He started as a song arranger for anime and now has become a distinctive and revered voice in the anime scoring world and is one of the few old warriors left (he’s almost 50 now), waving the flag for opera and Broadway song in media scoring. His career has pretty much been anime-only and it seems to stay that way for years to come. ![]() Taku Iwasaki is after Tanaka the second most prominent „Anime Composer”, perhaps to even more extremes than the original. ![]() It would be great help if you could rate and give us your feedback.
